Japanese sports cars from 90 years
Japanese cars of the 90s have grown to the rank of cult and, despite the passing of the years, are still in demand by automotive fans around the world. What is the origin of their phenomenon? The Japanese produced many car models in the 90s, which were distinguished by high power, innovative technologies for their time and ease of tuning. The original design of cars, which to this day pleases the eye of connoisseurs, is also of great importance. Meet legendary cars from an era considered by many to be the golden age in Japanese automotive history.
Japanese cars from the 90s — a treat for connoisseurs
Japanese sports cars of the 90s are real gems, which for a long time remained in the sphere of dreams of Polish drivers. In the cherry blossom country, cars were produced that could compete with European models of Porsche or Ferrari, but were released only in selected markets. The vast majority of Polish car enthusiasts had to settle for seeing them in pictures or in a virtual world — thanks to the iconic Gran Turismo game. Due to the economic situation of the 90s, Japanese sports cars were almost exotic in our country.
Fans of sports cars and tuning did not forget about the achievements of the Japanese, and many people still dream of their own Honda NSX or Mazda RX-7 to this day (known among others from the series Fast and Furious). All thanks to the strong performance and distinctive appearance that the cars offer.
Japanese sports cars of the 90s - examples
At the end of the last millennium, Japanese automotive concerns produced a number of sports cars characterized by modern design solutions. Below you will find the most popular of them.
Honda NSX
The car was first presented in 1989, and the concern produced it in 1990-2005 and 2016-2022. It used many innovative solutions — The Honda NSX was the brand's first sports car with a centrally located engine and the world's first mass-produced vehicle with a body made entirely of aluminium. The car had rich equipment, impressed with the aesthetics of execution and was called by many the Japanese Ferrari.
Mazda RX-7 FD third generation
A 2-rotor Wankla engine with two turbochargers, maximum power of 239 hp, advanced equipment - these are just a few of the factors that have contributed to the recognition of this model as a cult. Its advantage, without a doubt, was also the design: well-balanced proportions and sporty figure. In Europe, the Mazda RX-7 was available for a relatively short time, only between 1992 and 1996.
Nissan Skyline GT-R R32
The debut of the model took place in 1989. The concern presented to car enthusiasts a vehicle equipped with an RB26DETT engine with two turbochargers with an official capacity of 280 hp. We deliberately use the word “official” because in fact, the engine power was higher than Japanese regulations allowed. The Nissan Skyline was a powerful racing car, known among others from movies Fast and Furious (in version R34).
Mitsubishi 3000 GT
A technically advanced sports car that attracted attention, among others, with AWD drive, active body aerodynamics system and electronically controlled suspension system (ECS). The car was a big competitor to popular sports models such as the Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R or Toyota Supra, especially due to the 320 hp power unit. However, the problem of the car turned out to be a large total mass of the vehicle.
