JDM Cars

JDM is an acronym that electrifies automotive fans around the world. JDM cars are cars manufactured specifically for the Japanese market. In many cases, we are talking about models that never made it to Europe or were sold there for a short time. If you are a conscious car enthusiast and are interested in original cars from Japan, Sakura Motors can bring you just such a car. Learn more about JDM. What's that shortcut? What cars are worth paying attention to? Some of them are surefire about being a capital deposit!

JDM - cars (not) only for the Japanese

The abbreviation JDM became more widely known thanks to tuning enthusiasts, who often boasted that their car is in JDM specifications or has JDM components. Therefore, outsiders may think that this is a kind of mystical worship. Meanwhile, JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. So, these are cars in versions intended for sale in dealerships in Japan and adapted to meet the requirements of Japanese exhaust emission standards and safety standards. Unlike most cars imported from Japan, of course, they have a right-hand drive.

JDM cars - what to buy?

If you are wondering what kind of JDM car we would like to bring for you at Sakura Motors, then we have prepared some suggestions that are worth considering. We wanted them to be cars that at the same time give joy to drive and at the same time be a good investment of capital.

Toyota Supra MK IV

Toyota Supra IV generation became popular thanks to the series of films “Fast and Furious”. The car was produced from 1993 to 2002 and was also sold in Europe for a short time. The Toyota JDM has a 2JZ-GTE 3.0 Twin-Turbo engine with 280 hp in the JDM version. It is a motor with a lot of potential to increase power. It was offered with a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. In the Japanese version, the car has a more rigidly tuned suspension. The most appreciated are the copies that are kept in their original condition.

Honda NSX NA1

The Honda NSX is the first Japanese supercar. The unrepentant Ayrton Senna took part in the work on the car. The car was equipped with 3.0 V6 engines with 270 hp and 3.2 V6 with 290 hp. JDM versions differ in equipment and stylistic accents. Initially, the car had characteristic retractable headlights, and later received classic lamps. If you want a version with pull-out lamps, you have to look for copies from before 2001. Each piece was assembled by hand by 12 employees.

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI

The sixth generation of the Lancer EVO has grown into a legend and is in demand among collectors. Many consider it the best road version of a rally car ever built. An interesting fact is that the rally version was built by... the European branch of Ralliart. In 1999, Tommi Makinen won the WRC title with it. It has previously won it against the Lancer EVO III, IV and V. The auto has a 2.0 Turbo engine with 280 hp, 4-wheel drive with active differential and a 5-speed gearbox. The most sought-after version is the Tommi Makinen Edition, which was produced in the number of 2.5 thousand units. Its prices in Europe exceed 100 thousand euros.

Mazda RX-7 FD3S

Mazda RX-7 was one of the most interesting sports cars from Japan. The manufacturer consistently placed under the hood a Wankla engine - that is, with a rotary piston. It allowed to squeeze a lot of power out of a small capacity. Mazda RX-7 FD3S is the latest generation of this model and perhaps one of the most beautiful cars ever designed in Japan. It has a 13B-REW 1.3 Twin-Turbo engine with a power of 255 to 280 hp with a weight of only about 1.3 tons. The car was produced from 1991 to 2002. In Japan, the car was considered exclusive, and its owners had to pay an additional tax for too much width. This is 1760 mm. The car was offered in Europe and the USA. Only 1152 units were sold on our continent.

Suzuki Cappuccino

Suzuki Cappuccino is a roadster in the form of kei cara, which was produced from 1991 to 1997. Under the hood, it has a 657 cc engine, supercharged with a turbocharger. Its power is only 64 hp, but with a car weight of 725 kg this is quite a good result. The cherry on top of the cake is the rear-axle drive. The car was offered in Europe, but only 1.2 thousand units were sold and was 15 kg heavier due to additional equipment in the form of air conditioning and radio. In Japan, these additions were optional. The JDM version is considered more strict and sporty.

Nissan 300ZX Z32

The Nissan 300ZX of the Z32 series is one of the many iconic models produced by the Nissan brand. Although we associate it mainly with the Skyline GT-R34, and the 200SX and 180SX are very popular among drifters, the 300ZX is a luxury gran turismo with a sporty flair. The car has characteristic shapes of headlights and rear light strip. Although the targa type roof was optional, it is this version that is most common. Under the hood is the VG30DETT 3.0 V6 Twin-Turbo engine. For the Japanese market, it had a power of 280 hp. At the beginning of the 21st century, it was still possible to buy cheap copies of the 300ZX, but now it is already highly valued by collectors. The car was also sold in Europe and the USA.

Mitsubishi 3000GT

If we are talking about the Nissan 300ZX, then you can not miss its competitor - Mitsubishi 3000GT, which in the USA was sold as Mitsubishi GTO or Dodge Stealth. The car was offered in several engine variants, and the most powerful of them was the 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo with a capacity of about 300 hp. There were also 3.0 V6 versions without supercharging. The JDM versions have a slightly narrower body, thanks to which the owners could avoid paying high taxes. There are many interesting solutions in the car, such as active aerodynamics, active exhaust system and adjustable suspension.

Honda Integra Type-R DC2

The next Honda in our review is the iconic Integra Type-R. The car was produced from 1995 to 2000 and now the original, well-maintained copies are only gaining in value. Under the hood, a 1.8 DOHC VTEC naturally aspirated engine with 179 hp for the JDM version went under the hood. The car is front-wheel drive with an LSD differential, is soundproofed and has light windows installed in it. Due to this, the mass is about 1100 kg. Larger brake discs and stiffer suspension were introduced in 1998. The Japanese models are devoid of the ABS system, only since 1998 it was offered as an additional equipment element.
