Mercedes from Japan

The old saying goes that without a star there is no driving. That is why the Mercedes brand is one of the most valued in the world. Legends about the quality of Mercedes date back to the 70s and 80s of the last century. It is the cars of this brand from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries that enjoy the greatest popularity when it comes to importing cars from Japan. Why are Mercedes offered in Japan so popular? Which models are most often chosen?

A black Mercedes S-Class gliding through the streets of Tokyo accompanied by motorcycles driven by suit-clad and armed security guards is a common scene in Japanese action movies. Although the Japanese have their own luxury brands, even those who pay tribute to centuries-old traditions usually choose cars with a star on the hood.

Why do they love Mercedes in Japan?

Let's start with the fact that wealthy Japanese generally love European cars of premium segment brands. They must be well equipped, with powerful engines and a steering wheel on the left. Although it seems strange to us, the latter issue is also a symbol of status and superiority over others. It shows that the owner is a good driver, since he uses such a car in left-hand traffic.

Wealthy people want to drive luxury cars, and the Japanese are no exception here. However, an interesting fact is that for decades they have preferred European brands. For example, in 2021, Mercedes overtook Lexus in sales. Cars with a star on the hood are considered strong and respectable here.

Mercedes from Japan — why is it worth it?

Already after the first paragraph, it is easy to guess that Mercedes imported from Japan are usually in above-average condition and in the most powerful versions. Added to this is the low mileage, since many of them are used occasionally. All this means that although they are more expensive than cars with a star on the bonnet sold on the secondary market in Poland, it is a game worth the candle. Such a car can be an excellent decoration of the garage or a profitable investment, provided that the right model in the appropriate specification is selected.

Mercedes from Japan — the most popular models

Among the Mercedes imported from Japan, the S-class from the W140 and W221 series is of course the most popular. Despite its years, the S-class W140 enjoys immense popularity and respect. It is richly equipped and ultra comfortable. Versions imported from Japan often have the most powerful engines, namely the V8 with a capacity of 4973 cm3 and a V12 with a capacity of 5987 cm3.

Model W221, in turn, is already a modern car. While the Airmatic suspension of the W220 model does not have a good reputation, in the W221 it has been improved. Among the imported cars, the S 63 and S 65 AMG versions with V8 and V12 engines reign. As for both the W140 and the W221, it happens that special extended or armored versions go on sale.

The result of both models is the coupe version with the designation CL, which is built on the same floorboard and offers the same level of luxury. This is a long and majestic coupe with the most powerful engines on offer. Since we are talking about the coupe, it is also impossible not to mention the iconic SL from the R129 series, which was driven by Princess Diana herself. The SL R231 is also very popular and the AMG version prevails here.

The next on the list is the G-class, that is, the famous Gelenda. Logic would dictate that only AMG versions will go to Europe, but there are even those who decide to buy a G-Class with a diesel engine. The most common and most demanded is the 2nd generation produced after 2007. Then the car received the first “modernizing” facelift, and a year later the V8 engine was introduced.

How to bring a Mercedes from Japan?

If you are thinking about bringing a Mercedes from the country of cherry blossoms, you need to know the specifics of making purchases in the local market. Cars are usually bought at auctions by specialized companies such as Sakura Motors. It all starts with a conversation in which you specify the car models you are looking for and the budget. Then we search for the car in the auction houses and check it. If you decide to buy a car, we participate in the auction up to the amount you specify.

If everything is successful, you have about 2 days to deposit money for the car and pay the commission for the auction house. Then we organize Car transport from Japan to Europe with insurance. After that, all you have to do is pay customs duty, excise duty and VAT, and then prepare the documentation needed to register your Mercedes in Poland. Total cost of importing a car from Japan is difficult to estimate due to the fact that many fees are variable or calculated on the basis of interest rates, so much depends on the final price of the car.
