Mercedes S550 W221 (2005-2013)
Mercedes S-Class of the W221 series debuted in 2005. The car was developed on the basis of a dedicated platform, which was made of steel with increased strength. Some of the body parts are made of aluminum to reduce the weight of the car. As standard, the car had an Airmatic air suspension with Adaptive Damping (ADS), and the S550 variant with the long version offered Active Body Control suspension as standard, which minimizes body tilt. The car was rear-wheel drive, and in 2007 the 4MATIC drive with a 40:60 front/rear distribution was added to the range. For customers from Europe, Mercedes offered this car with the designation S500.
The Mercedes W221 had some interesting technological innovations. It was equipped, for example, with the Pre-Safe Plus system, which prepared the interior not only for a collision in the front, but also in the rear of the vehicle. For this, the car was equipped with additional radars that monitored the situation behind it. Mercedes has also introduced Night View Assist, which improves visibility when driving after dark.
In 2009, the car underwent a facelift for the 2010 model year. In this case, the Mercedes S550 interior received a larger 8" Command screen with new graphics and a more powerful processor, a 4-spoke steering wheel with shift paddles, new buttons, new upholstery options. From the outside, the grill was redesigned, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights were used, the front bumper and rear lights were redesigned. The electronics have acquired a new, improved active cruise control with Stop & Go function, an automatic braking system in the absence of the possibility of avoiding a collision, an optional blind spot monitoring system and a lane keeping assistant were introduced.

- S550 BlueEFFICIENCY Long (2011-2013) - V8, displacement 4663 cc, two turbochargers, power 435 hp, torque 700 Nm, 7G-Tronic gearbox.

- S550 (SWB) - four-zone automatic climate control, COMMAND multimedia system (6.5" screen until 2009, 8" from 2009) with Linguatronic voice control, leather seats with 12-way electric adjustment and memory, 18" alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights (from 2009 with LED daytime running lights), cruise control Distraction Plus (from 2009 with Stop & Go), Harman Kardon Logic7 audio system with 14 speakers, Airmatic suspension with adaptive damping, Parktronic system with active parking assistant, wood or aluminum inserts, steering wheel multifunctional, leather with paddle shifters, heated and ventilated front seats, Pre-Safe Plus system, keyless system, electrically opening tailgate, ESP, BAS.
- S550 (LWB) - equipment with SWB and additionally wheelbase increased by 130 mm, rear seats with electric adjustment and massage function, electric rear blinds, panoramic roof, inserts in maple wood or piano black, optional Burmeister audio system with 15 speakers.
