Mercedes-Benz GL 550 - 1st generation (X164, 2007-2012)
The first generation is based on a frame chassis design with an integrated self-supporting body. The production used high-strength steel and aluminum (front door, hood). The car was offered only in a four-wheel drive version. The Mercedes-Benz GL 550 4MATIC has a torque distribution of 45:55 (front/rear) and a suspension with the Airmatic system, adaptive shock absorbers and level adjustment, where the ground clearance varies in the range of 226-285 mm.
In 2009, a facelift was introduced. Changes from the outside include a new grill, new bi-xenon headlights with the optional Intelligent Light System, LED rear lights with sequential turn signals. Inside there was a Command APS NTG 4.0 system with a 6.5" touchscreen, an improved steering wheel, ambient lighting. In the Mercedes GL 550, the engine received a 7G-Tronic Plus gearbox, which replaced the 7G-Tronic. Thanks to this, in the Mercedes GL 550, combustion decreased by 0.5-1 l/100 km. The PRE-SAFE system has been added.

- Avantgarde - after the facelift - additionally sports bumpers with diffusers, sequential LED turn signals in the side mirrors, inserts made of brushed aluminum.

Mercedes-Benz GL 550 - II generation (X166, 2013-2019)
The second generation offered even more luxury and space, as well as even better technologies. For example, the Magic Body Control body tilt reduction system has been introduced. The GL550 4MATIC variant was the top version sold in Japan. The weight of the vehicle has been reduced by 100 kg compared to the previous generation.
In 2016, the car underwent a facelift. Exterior changes included a grill, LED headlights with Intelligent Light System as standard, new wheel designs. Changes in the interior are the Command NTG 5.0 system with an 8" touchscreen, an improved steering wheel with touch buttons, improved ambient lighting. The transmission has been reprogrammed and changes gears 10 percent faster. Added Magic Body Control and optional Drive Pilot 2 - Level 2 autonomous driving system.
