The Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is a fast and luxurious sedan that was the answer to the BMW M5 and Audi RS6. The E55 began its career in 1997 as the third E-Class car to bear the AMG logo. It appeared in both the W210 and W211 generations. At the time of its creation, Mercedes was already the owner of AMG with one leg, because 2 years later it took control of the famous tuner. Mercedes E55 AMG W210 (1998-2002)
Production of the AMG E55 began in 1998 and was the successor to the E50, which fell short of expectations in terms of sales performance. It featured in the body of a sedan and station wagon with the designation T. The latter is extremely rare, since only 1723 copies were produced.
By default, it had a rear-axle drive, and as an option, the manufacturer offered a 4Matic drive, however, information on the network indicates that only 15 copies with both axles were sold. The suspension of the E55 AMG has been lowered by 15 mm from the original, and has been hardened for better cornering stability. AMG brakes allowed braking from a speed of 100 km/h at a distance of only 36 meters.
In 1999, the car underwent a facelift. After changes to the Mercedes E55 AMG model, the interior received a new multifunction steering wheel, an improved center console, wood and aluminum inserts and a speedometer scaled to 300 km/h. From the outside, headlights, bumpers, grill, taillights and rims were changed. Parktronic and Command systems have been improved.

In the Mercedes E55 AMG, the engine is a 5.4 V8 unit with 345 hp, and the maximum torque is 530 Nm. The transmission is an automatic 5 G-Tronic. Sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.7 seconds.The speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h, but there is information that by individual order, the factory unlocked the car up to 300 km/h.

Mercedes E55 AMG W211 (2003-2006)
After presenting the E-Class of the W211 series, Mercedes-Benz continued production of the E55 AMG. Production of the car began in 2002, and sales in Japan - a year later. Again, two body versions were offered - a sedan and a station wagon. The car has, among others, an Airmatic suspension lowered by 15 mm and with adaptive damping. The car was sold only with rear-axle drive.
Electromechanical brakes SBC (Sensotronic Brake Control) have joined the list of safety systems. In 2004, the Pre-Safe system, an improved Command system with a 7" screen and an AMG Performance package that unlocked a top speed of up to 300 km/h were added. A supercharged engine went under the hood. At the time of launch, the E55 AMG was the fastest mass-produced sedan in the world. According to estimates, about 800 cars were sold in Japan, including about 200 in the station wagon body.

The 5.4 V8 engine with a compressor has a power of 476 hp, and the maximum torque is 700 Nm. It was paired with a 5 G-Tronic gearbox, as it withstood higher loads than the 7 G-Tronic gearbox.
