Mercedes Benz CLS C219 (2004-2010)

The first generation of the model was based on the E-class W211. From the very beginning, the car has a characteristic, sloping roofline and is characterized by a low coefficient of air resistance. For the 2009 model year, the car underwent a facelift, which consisted in changing the grille, the use of LED headlights, there were 18 “wheels, Nappa leather, the Command NTG 4.0 system with a 7" screen, and the gearbox received new settings. In Japan, better starting equipment was offered, and there were no CDI engines.

The first generation was offered in Japan with two engines:

  • 3.5 V6 - 272 hp, 7G-Tronic gearbox, RWD drive
  • 5.0 V8 - 306 hp, 7G-Tronic gearbox, RWD drive

Mercedes CLS - equipment

The car was available in two variants and also had additional equipment packages. In any case, the interior of the Mercedes CLS model had leather upholstery. The following variants were sold:

  • CLS 350 Base - xenon headlights with cornering illumination, 17" wheels, heated, electrically adjustable seats, 2-zone climate control, Command system, Harman Kardon audio, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera (from 2008), panoramic sunroof;
  • CLS 500 Premium - additionally Airmatic adaptive suspension, keyless system, electrically folding heated mirrors, 18" wheels, walnut inserts.

Equipment packages:

  • AMG Sport Package - AMG trim, 18" AMG rims, sports seats with the AMG logo, Alcantara steering wheel;
  • Luxury Package - perforated Nappa leather, Burmester audio, ambient lighting.

Mercedes Benz CLS C218 (2011-2018)

The next generation was again based on the E-class, but this time the W212 series. In 2014, the 4MATIC drive, which was standard in the CLS 500, was offered. For the 2015 model year, the car underwent a facelift. There are Multibeam LED headlights, a new grill, a 9G-Tronic gearbox and an 8.4" Command screen instead of the previous 7" and a new touchpad. There was still no Mercedes CLS AMG in the offer. However, the 4.7 V8 Biturbo engine in the CLS 500 was derived from the sports models of the German brand.

Again, there were only two engines:

  • 3.5 V6 - 306 hp, RWD or 4MATIC drive (from 2014), 7G-Tronic Plus or 9G-Tronic gearbox (from 2014)
  • 4.7 V8 Biturbo - 408 hp, RWD or 4MATIC drive (from 2014 as standard), 7G-Tronic Plus or 9G-Tronic gearbox (from 2014)

The car was offered in two variants of engine and equipment:

  • CLS 350 Avantgarde - including LED High Performance headlights, leather upholstery, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, 3-zone automatic climate control, Command system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from 2014, Burmester audio, 360 camera, parking sensors, panoramic sunroof;
  • CLS 500 Exclusive - additionally, among others, adaptive Airmatic suspension, Keyless-Go system, electrically controlled tailgate, ash wood inserts.

Additional equipment packages:

  • AMG Line - AMG bodykit, 19" AMG rims, sports steering wheel trimmed with Alcantara, aluminum pedal pads;
  • Night Package - black details instead of chrome, factory tinted glass.

Mercedes Benz CLS C257 (2018-2023)

The C257 series is currently the last generation of the CLS. Built on the MRA platform, available with RWD or 4MATIC drive and 9G-Tronic gearbox. For the 2022 model year, the car has undergone a facelift. New 20" wheels, a new grill, optional Digital Light, MBUX 2.0 system, new interior trim materials and the CLS 53 AMG variant were introduced.

In the last generation of the CLS model, hybrid drives appeared, and the capacity of internal combustion engines was significantly reduced. There were 3 engines available:

  • 2.0 Turbo - 299 hp, 9G-Tronic gearbox, RWD or 4MATIC drive
  • 3.0 Turbo - MHEV, 367 hp, 9G-Tronic gearbox, 4MATIC drive
  • 3.0 Turbo (AMG) - MHEV, 435 hp, AMG Speedshift TCT gearbox, 4MATIC+ drive

This time there were 3 variants of equipment on sale:

  • CLS 350 Premium - leather upholstery, ventilated and heated seats with electric adjustment, 3-zone climate control with heat pump, 12.3" multimedia screen, 360 camera, parking assistant;
  • CLS 450 Exclusive - additionally, among others, Airmatic adaptive suspension, wireless charger for smartphone, Keyless-Go system, 20" wheels;
  • CLS 53 AMG - additionally, among others, a package of vaporization, 20" AMG wheels, AMG steering wheel trimmed with Alcantara, AMG Performance exhaust.

Additional equipment packages:

  • AMG Line - black exterior accents, sports seats, aluminum pedal covers;
  • Night Package - black mirrors, grill and rims;
  • Luxury Package - Nappa leather, massage chairs, ambient lighting.
