The Audi R8 is the first and so far the only supercar of the German brand. The car was offered with V8 and V10 engines, and the design was based on the Lamborghini Gallardo. Thanks to the affordable price for this type of car, the car quickly became a sales hit. It also did not bypass Japan, although in total about a thousand copies of both generations were officially sold there. It comes in two body versions - coupe and spyder. Audi R8 Typ 42 (2006-2015)

The Audi R8 is a production version of the Le Mans Quattro concept, which was shown in 2003. Production of the car began only in 2006. In Japan, it began to be sold in 2007 and in Audi dealerships it was available with left-hand and right-hand drive. The car has an aluminum frame with carbon fiber elements. The engine was placed just behind the passenger cabin (the so-called mid-engine car). The Quattro drive has a 40:60ratio. The body is made of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced polymer. They were offered with V8 and V10 engines. The latter made the Audi R8 popular in Japan.

In 2012, the car underwent a facelift, thanks to which in the Audi R8 the interior received new trim and the Bang & Olufsen audio system for the V10 version, as well as a 7-speed R-tronic transmission instead of the S-tronic, the power of the V10 engine was increased to 550 hp, the body underwent cosmetic changes.

The car was sold in two engine versions:

  • 4.2 TFSI V8 - 4163 cm3, 420 hp up to 2010/430 hp after 2010, 6-speed manual or 6-speed R-tronic transmission up to 2012/7-speed S-tronic after 2012, average fuel consumption 14.6 l/100 km in the combined cycle;
  • 5.2 FSI V10 - 5204 cm3, 525 hp until 2012/550 hp after 2012, 530 Nm, 6-speed R-tronic transmission up to 2012/7-speed S-tronic after 2012, average fuel consumption 15.9 l/100 km in the combined cycle.

Audi R8 - equipment

The Audi R8 coupé and Spyder were offered with the same equipment, which included, among others: leather and Alcantara trim, leather-trimmed sports seats, electric seat adjustment, dual-zone automatic climate control, Audi MMI multimedia system, adaptive xenon headlights (until 2012) /LED headlights (after 2012), 19" wheels, active rear coupling lair.

There are 3 limited editions, sold globally and also available in Japan:

  • R8 GT (2011) - 560 hp V10 engine, carbon fiber roof and bodykit, bucket seats, weight reduced by 30 kg, 19" wheels, maximum speed increased to 320 km/h;
  • R8 LMX (2014) - 570 hp V10 engine, carbon fiber roof and sills, ceramic brakes, top speed increased to 315 km/h;
  • Exclusive Selection Edition (2012) - available with a V8 or V10 engine (20 pieces each), unique varnishes, carbon fiber inserts in the interior, Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Audi R8 Tipo 4S (2015-2024)

The second and final generation of the Audi R8 debuted in 2015, this time the platform was shared with the Lamborghini Huracan. In Japan, left- and right-hand drive variants were again sold. In total, about 500-600 copies were sold in this country. Interestingly, in this Audi R8, the V8 engine was discontinued and only the V10 was left. The body is equipped with active aerodynamic elements. Adaptive suspension was used, and Dynamic Steering could be added as an option. Again, 2 body versions were available - coupe and Spyder.

In 2019, the car underwent a facelift for the 2020 model year. Engine power for the Performance Quattro version was increased by 10 hp, and in the Quattro version - by 30 hp. The appearance of the grill and headlights was refreshed, the steering was improved, the Virtual Cockpit appeared in the interior.

  • 5.2 V10 Quattro - 5204 cm3, 540 hp until 2019/570 hp after 2019, 540 Nm, 7-speed S-tronic gearbox, average fuel consumption 12.9 l/100 km in the combined cycle;
  • 5.2 V10 Performance Quattro - 5204 cm3, 610 hp until 2019/620 hp after 2019, 580 Nm, 7-speed S-tronic gearbox, average fuel consumption 13.9 l/100 km in the combined cycle.

Audi R8 - equipment

The car had one version of the equipment, regardless of engine power and body type. It included, among others, an interior covered with leather and Alcantara, with carbon fiber inserts, sports seats with massage (Performance Quattro version), adaptive cruise control, lane maintenance assistant, Audi Virtual Cockpit (after 2019), Audi MMI Navigation Plus, V2X communication module.

There are 3 limited editions on the market:

  • Decennium (2019) - Mythos Black paint, 20" rims, carbon fiber bodykit, exclusive details, optionally it was possible to increase the maximum speed to 340 km/h;
  • GT RWD (2020-2023) - rear-wheel drive, bucket seats, carbon fiber roof and sills, weight reduced by approx. 40 kg;
  • Japan Final Edition (2023) - White Ibis lacquer, carbon fiber bodykit, ceramic brakes, origami style finishes.
